Don’t Rain on My Protest: The Effect of Anti-Racism Protests on Democratic Vote Shares in Midwestern Suburbs

[Research Paper] Using rainfall as an instrument for protest turnout, we study how 2020 anti-racism protests affected presidential vote shares in Midwestern suburbs. Contrary to prior work, higher protest attendance slightly reduced Democratic support, with no statistically significant differences between racial groups.
